A Perfect Round three for Gilmour Racing

Round three
At Oran Park, Gilmour Racing’s, Chris Gilmour could not have asked for a better result at the end of the race meeting. Chris Gilmour went into round three of the eight round Kumho Championship, two points behind front runner Lee Farrell, after the end of race two Gilmour was a massive 42 points in the lead of the Formula 3 National class Kumho Championship, after taking two pole positions, two fastest race Laps and taking two from two race wins, earning him the maximum 44 points for the round.
Fridays Practice started off with Gilmour stranded in Pit Lane watching the first practice session after breaking a drive shaft. Practice two saw Gilmour back on track and settling back into the car after a long two month break. As practice two progressed Gilmour was improving his times on each lap and by the end of the session was 2nd quickest.
Saturday’s qualifying and Gilmour was confident with new tyres they had the pace, with some minor wing adjustments and new rubber Gilmour settled into first qualifying session setting a fast pace early in the session. As the session progressed it became a fight between Gilmour and Farrell, with Farrell setting a time two tenths quicker. Team Manager Errol Gilmour was on the radio giving Chris the news and urging Chris to push harder. With only three minutes left in the session Driver Chris Gilmour pulled out a quick lap putting him on Pole Position by only 3 /100th of a lap quicker than Lee Farrell.
Qualifying two, the team decided to leave the car setup as from past experience the track normally is slower in the afternoon session. This was the case for most of the class apart from Chris Gilmour setting a blistering six tenth quicker lap time than his next competitor John Whelan. Gilmour picked up two points for two Pole Positions for both races.
“Yeah it’s great to get those two points and this puts us equal with Farrell for the championship now, and I know that every point counts” Gilmour said.
Race one; with Gilmour sitting eighth outright on the grid (pole for national class) Gilmour who is now renowned for his starts was in fourth outright by the end of the straight giving himself a massive gap from Farrell and Samadi. Gilmour put in some quick laps on cold tyres to give himself enough gap to maintain the lead. Two safety cars than hampered the race while finishing under the safety car Gilmour was in front and took the race win and the fastest lap earning him 22 points for race one.
Race two, again Gilmour excelled with the start and was quickly into the lead, some quick laps on cold tyres again allowed Gilmour to pull a small gap over Whelan and after six laps Whelan experienced a mechanical failure giving Gilmour a massive gap between him and Samadi. Gilmour just keep pushing hard pulling a commanding lead taking the chequered flag in first position and again setting fastest lap.
“Wow what a weekend, to take two poles, two fastest laps and two race wins is just awesome, when I saw Farrell out in both races I knew I had to take as many points as possible and that’s exactly what I did”
Round four is being held at Mallala in South Australia and Chris Gilmour is looking forward to running there. Being there a number of times and also winning there, Gilmour is confident that he can extend his Championship points further.
