Gilmour WINS 2008 National Class Formula 3 Championship.
Gilmour Racing along with driver Chris Gilmour has secured the 2008 National Formula 3 Championship. The team wrapped up the championship after two cautious rain affected races in Tasmania last weekend.
Gilmour went into the final round 34 points ahead, the team had to finish better than fifth in the first race to secure the championship. Driver Chris Gilmour drove a smart and cautious race which was affected with rain on the final 2 laps to finish the race in fourth place, securing the championship with one race still to run later in the weekend.
The second race was this year's Country Club Super Prix , an extra long race of 30 laps around the fast and tricky Symmons plains circuit. The race was a great battle with Chris being as high as second and finishing in a close race to cross the finish line in fourth.
“It was great to just race in the last race with no pressure, it was one of the best and closest races I've ever been in.
With the smiles beaming from ear to ear the team had finally won their 1 st National Championship after such a close run in 2004 finishing second place by 3 points it was great to see the team win the championship and the $40,000 prize money on offer for the winner.
The team would like to thank all their sponsors who have supported Chris and Gilmour Racing through his career and allow him achieve his dream of winning a National Championship. “Yeah after 20 years of racing in different categories it's finally come, but it really hasn't sunken in yet, but it will later I think.”
